Meet Audra
Hi! I’m Audra Figgins (she/her), and I am a writing coach; ghostwriter; developmental, line, and technical editor; and general word enthusiast. I have worked for traditional publishing houses, including Shambhala Publications, and now, as a full-time freelancer, I collaborate with a variety of individual clients, publishers, and businesses all over the world.
I’m a natural editor whose early works included writing a letter to Bram Stoker about how he might improve Dracula (he was dead, I was eleven). Now, I consider my editorial work as a kind of mediumship, where I intercept the raw material, give it voice, and refine it to best bring the author’s message to life through improving structure, flow, voice, phrasing, inclusivity, and more.
My editorial experience includes work developing books and proposals across a wide range of genres. Nonfiction genres include health and wellness, business, memoir, teaching memoir, astrology, spirituality, psychology, mindfulness, yoga, gardening, cooking, crafting, writing, and animals. Tarot decks, oracle decks, and journals are another area of interest. In fiction, I work mostly with speculative fiction like horror and sci-fi as well as literary fiction and queer-focused fiction. I also have experience in children’s picture and activity books and middle-grade fiction.
When I don’t have my hands in a manuscript, I am an avid reader (200+ books per year) who can also be found ghost hunting, Muay Thai kickboxing, and watching scary movies. I live in Boulder, Colorado, with my partner, a fluffy goldendoodle (find him on Instagram @ouija.reads), and an assorted menagerie of overflowing bookshelves, plants, curiosities, and creatures. A little bit weird but with a lot of heart, I have a great respect for obscure bookstores, high strangeness, and the serial comma.
